Tehran: New tastes for high standard living
| Do
you mind taking your brand new Mercedes to 20th floor in a Kamranieh
Borj penthouse and swim in your own swimming pool right up in your
apartment? Tehran, a city of 12 million population in not what we
remember in our childhood memories. It has been drastically changed in
the last few years and for most of us living abroad, it has an
unfamiliar face. In the last few years, City Municipalities had issued
building permits to allow land owners and developers built few hundred
percents over the capacity of their lands; in answer to high demand for
new housing and rapid growth of population migrating to Capital. High-rise
builder as they call them: "Borj-Saz" became a new
profession for high rank developers. Borj-Saz
basically are the old Besaz-Befroos type with more capital to
invest and more connections in City Municipality. They usually
team up with structural engineers more likely than architects and
pre-sell their Borj before even starting the construction; It can
be sold for more than 1.3 Million Tomans per square Meter. Recently new Tehran
Mayor has put a halt for issuing such permits for these Borjes.
They have found out about their mistakes when it is too late! Tehran
urbanites would remeber their pain and carry on this scar in the face of
their city for a long time, if not forever!
