The following are the minutes of the SIAP Board of Director's meeting
Date 5-1-03 700 PM
Location: Lu Lu Restaurant, Los Angeles, CA
Present:

Agenda:
1- Previous and future radio programs
2- The outcome of the Convention Center meeting.
3- Web-site update.
The following items were discussed
Radio Program:
The following suggestions were made by members:
M. Gharavi: Narrow down the topics of discussion, emphasize the services,
and open the line for listeners.
Bijan: Direct the program in such a way as to attract other architects,
specially younger ones to our organization.
Farshad: Obtain a demographic profile of the listeners, in order to
tailor our discussion. He also made a point of making sure that we should not be
identified as sales people.
Ashraf: Find out the best day and time of the week to have our future
programs for the best results.
Iraj: The goal should be to increase the listeners' knowledge and
awareness of architecture and architects.
M. Vaghei: Allocate ten minutes of the program to discuss architectural
services step-by-step. He also discussed the possibility of having future
programs sponsored by interested members to advance general architectural
knowledge as well as their own professional business.
H. Borghei: Emphasize the technical and professional aspects of
architecture and how an architect can be essential in this respect.
For the upcoming program, it was decided to have M. Gharavi remain as one of the members to conduct the program, joined by Bijan and M. Vaghei.
Forum:
The up-coming forum on May 15, 2003 at 700 pm was discussed and it was
decided to have five separate desks to answer questions.
Information desk Attended by M. Gharavi and Ashraf to direct the public to other
stations.
Code, zoning, and permit desk Attended by M. Borghei.
Material and methods desk Attended by Shahram.
Residential Desk Attended by Azarnoosh and H. Borghei
Commercial Desk Attended by Bijan and M. Vaghei
It was decided to have media advertisement for this activity one week prior to forum date. Iraj will contact T.V. stations and Ashraf will contact Radio stations.
L.A. Convention Center:
Bijan gave a run-down of his and other members' meeting with Pouria Abbassi,
the assistant manager of the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), which was
arranged by Ashraf Hemmati and Morteza Ghamsari.
The following topics were discussed with Mr. Abbassi:
1- Participation of SIAP as a non-profit organization in a variety of projects
such as L.A. Live.
2- Invitation of SIAP members as his guests to private hi-tech trade shows.
3- Exhibiting SIAP members' work at the LACC.
In regard to this development, it was decided to take the following actions:
1- Establish an entity within SIAP to send information about members'
professional expertise to Mr. Abbassi.
2- Bijan to write a letter of appreciation and stay in contact with Mr. Abbassi.
3- Gharavi to send a honorary membership in SIAP to Mr. Abbassi.
Providing a List of Interested Members to Potential Clients:
In order to serve the public and be impartial to our members, it was decided to
do the following after receiving a request for architectural services:
1- Prepare an alphabetical list of members.
2- Contact the members alphabetically to find out if they are interest in the
project.
3- A list of three names will be furnished to the potential client.
4- The name of the member who gets the job will go to the bottom of the list.
Website Update:
Due to the shortage of time, discussion of website-related matters was
postponed for later meetings.
Next Board Meeting:
Next meeting is scheduled for May 22, 2003 at 700 pm
